GIACS Conference on “Data in Complex Systems” Palermo, Italy, 7-9 April 2008

GIACS Conference on “Data in Complex Systems”

Palermo, Italy, 7-9 April 2008

The use of data in complex system research is crucial to corroborate or falsify theoretical models that are developed to describe the emergence of collective structures in complex systems. Analysis and modeling of empirical data in complex system research is a key tool in the search for possible mechanisms that create and sustain complexity. The goal of this Conference is to realize a gathering of an interdisciplinary group of researchers working in different areas of Complex system research.

The Conference will discuss problems of data collection, data mining, data dissemination and data sharing for research projects dealing with complex systems. A special attention will be devoted to the problems related with the use of proprietary and personal data in complex system research. The conference will consider problems and opportunities related with the use of data recording and/or monitoring activities into the fields of biology, biomedicine, consumer preferences, finance, social networks, sociology, traffic problems and telecommunication.

The Conference is organized within the European Coordination Action GIACS (General Integration of the Applications of Complexity in Science) http:// www.giacs.org.
